I write too much. Sorry in advance. Coffee, bikes, small dramas.

  • Sometimes I get to the bottom of a coffee and genuinely don't remember drinking it. That's the whole post.

  • The grocery store had a guy handing out samples of a cheese I've never heard of. I bought the cheese. I don't even like cheese that much. He just seemed so proud of it.

  • Took my bike in because the brakes were squeaking. The guy rode it around the parking lot, came back, and said 'yeah, they squeak.' Then he charged me nothing and told me to come back when they actually stop working. I love that shop and I have no idea how it stays open.

  • Rode the long way home just because the light was nice, and then got a flat two blocks from my apartment. Walked the bike home. The light was still nice, so I'm calling it a win.

  • Rode past the same runner three times on my loop today. By the third pass we were waving like old friends. I don't know her name. I don't think I want to.

  • The farmers market guy gave me a free tomato because I 'looked like I needed it.' I did need it. I don't know how he knew.

  • Tried a new coffee place because the usual one was closed for a 'staff retreat.' The new place was fine. I felt like I was cheating the whole time and left a big tip out of guilt.

  • Got a haircut and asked for 'just a trim.' I have learned that 'just a trim' means different things to different people, and to this particular person it meant a fresh start.

  • Locked myself out and had to wait for the building manager, who arrived eating a sandwich and asked if I wanted half. I didn't. I think about the sandwich a lot.

  • Spent an evening organizing the cables behind the TV. Two hours. Nobody will ever see it. That's kind of the point.

  • The bakery started charging for the paper bag. Ten cents. I paid it out of respect and ate the croissant out of the bag in the rain.

  • My upstairs neighbor practices trumpet on Sundays at exactly 4. It's bad, but it's the same bad every week, and at this point I'd notice if it stopped.

  • Bought a plant for the kitchen window. The guy at the shop said it was 'impossible to kill.' We'll see. I've surprised people before.

  • Tried to cook the pasta dish from the video. The video was 40 seconds. I was in the kitchen for two hours and there's sauce on the ceiling. It was pretty good though.

  • There's a barista at the place on 5th who has never once gotten my name right, and today he wrote 'Lou' on the cup. I've decided I'm Lou now. Lou seems like he has his life together.

  • My commute has a stretch where four different people wave at me every morning, and I've never met any of them. I'd be devastated if one stopped.

  • Ended up at a garage sale by accident and bought a lamp I don't need from a woman who told me its whole life story. It's a good lamp. It's had a hard life.

  • There's a man at the market who sells honey and only honey, and every week I ask how he's doing and he says 'bees are good,' and I have come to depend on that update more than the news.

  • My neighbor knocked to ask if I'd heard 'the noise.' I had not heard the noise. We stood in the hallway for five minutes waiting for the noise. It did not come. He seemed disappointed in me.

  • I got a flat tire outside a laundromat, and while I fixed it three different people came out to tell me they'd had a flat once too. Nobody helped. It was still nice.
